Engineering A Startup #6: Can you be Replaced by a Robot?

Tom is a Yale philosophy major, lawyer, technophile and entrepreneur. He is the founder and managing attorney of Foresight Legal Group, one of the first virtual law firms in the United States. In 2012 he also founded an online marketplace for flat fee legal services called LawDeal with a former LegalZoom executive. In this episode, however, I found out about Tom’s newest project: Lawdroid.

Lawdroid is a chatbot built into Facebook Messenger that can produce the documentation necessary to incorporate a business in California. It is functionally pretty basic in its current state, but the promise is this kind of technology is huge once combined with learning and search algorithms. Tom was inspired to create LawDroid in order to empower entrepreneurs to launch their business without the red tape and expense that typically accompanies incorporating with a lawyer.

How can you not love a lawyer providing free, automated legal help?
